Our Process
Building a log cabin is more than stacking logs—it's a carefully planned process that ensures your home is structurally sound, energy efficient, and built to last for generations. At Green River Log Homes, we take pride in every stage of construction.
Step 1: Floor System Assembly
Construction begins with the floor system, which is installed on the completed crawl space foundation. We carefully assemble the support beams, floor joists, rim joists, and subfloor according to the engineered plans. This creates a strong, level foundation while elevating the home above the ground, helping protect against moisture and providing space for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Step 2: Log Wall Assembly
Once the floor system is complete, we begin assembling the log walls. The first course of logs is one of the most important stages of the project. We carefully seal the base to create a weather-tight barrier that helps prevent moisture, insects, and air infiltration.
Each log is positioned according to the engineered plans and secured with multiple engineered lag screws for maximum structural strength. A continuous bead of foam gasket or sealant is installed between each course of logs to create a tight, energy-efficient seal.
At every corner, we construct the cabin using the butt-and-pass corner system, providing exceptional strength while maintaining the classic appearance of a handcrafted log home.
As the walls are assembled, we also locate and prepare openings for electrical outlets, switches, windows, and doors, ensuring the cabin is ready for the next phases of construction.
Step 3: Interior Framing & Roof System
After the exterior log walls have been completed, we begin constructing the interior framing. This includes interior partition walls, structural beams, loft framing, and the second-floor system when applicable.
The final structural phase is the roof system. We install the ridge beams, rafters, roof framing, and roof decking according to the engineered plans, creating a strong, weather-ready structure that prepares the cabin for roofing materials and the remaining finishing work.
Every step is completed with precision, quality craftsmanship, and attention to detail, ensuring your log cabin shell is built to stand the test of time.
Step 4: Exterior Finishing
Once the roof system has been completed, we begin installing the exterior finishing components that give your cabin its distinctive appearance while protecting it from the elements. This includes installing the log cabin siding, decorative fascia, and soffit panels with continuous soffit ventilation.
The log siding completes the classic log home look, while the decorative fascia provides a clean, finished appearance along the roof edges. The vented soffit system promotes proper attic airflow, helping reduce heat and moisture buildup, extending the life of the roof system, and improving your home's overall energy efficiency.
With the exterior finishes in place, your log cabin shell is weather-ready and prepared for the next phase of construction, including roofing, utilities, insulation, and interior finishes.
Step 5: Window & Door Installation
The final stage of our cabin shell assembly is installing all exterior windows and doors. Each unit is carefully set, leveled, and secured according to manufacturer specifications to ensure proper operation and long-term performance.
We install flashing, weather-resistant barriers, and sealants to create a watertight seal that helps protect your cabin from air and water infiltration. Once the windows and doors are installed, we complete the exterior with custom trim around each opening, giving the cabin a clean, finished appearance while adding another layer of protection against the elements.
At the completion of this step, your log cabin shell is fully enclosed, weather-tight, and ready for the next phase of construction, including electrical, plumbing, insulation, and interior finishes.
